Naomi Ernest is a writer, artist, and photographer using a multi-disciplinary approach to explore connections between her present life and her family's past. For inspiration in both writing and artwork, Naomi dips into her own history and her endless fascination with the landscapes and seascapes of Michigan.
Naomi graduated magna cum laude from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts in English. She lives with her husband and five children in a very old farmhouse in Michigan.
WRITING
Her writing is musing, introspective, and honest, pulling from personal experiences and memory to reveal brilliant flashes in the everyday ordinary. Her words step between poetry and prose, giving shape to shapeless remembrances and nebulous moments. For two years running, Naomi’s work was shortlisted in Midwest Review’s Great Midwest Writing Contest. Her work has been published, and is forthcoming, online and in print at several small, independent publications, and she is currently working on two books.
Naomi also shares her words in her Letters; sign up to receive them.
ART
In her art, Naomi creates abstract imagery, inviting the discovery of nuanced beauty and significance. She employs the tools of photography, painting, and drawing to create a myriad of intricate details within balanced compositions, gently and assuredly commanding control over color, imagery, and materials. Naomi has received various awards and recognitions, has exhibited her photography and artworks at venues throughout the U.S. and counts collectors all over the world. West Elm, Target, Design Sponge, Domino, Minted, Brit + Co., and more have published interviews with her and featured her artworks.
